The Green Bride: Getting Rid of Diamond Rings
I have been writing several reviews about expensive diamond
engagement rings. It makes me wonder if it is really something that a commoner
would wish to wear on her finger. Do you think it is even practical to wear one
on your finger on a daily basis?
The Cost of Diamond Engagement Rings
Diamond Rings |
At an average, a diamond engagement ring is expected to cost
about $3500 to $4000, which is more than what an average worker earns in a
month. For some, it is a form of investment, but let us do a little reality
check here, will anyone intend to sell her diamond engagement ring unless she
gets divorced? I haven’t heard of that in my lifestyle. Nevertheless, I have
heard engagement rings being passed to the next generation just like what Kate
Middleton currently owns.
The Blood Diamond
You must have heard about Conflict Diamonds or Blood
Diamonds. It hit the news after it has been revealed how African miners were
exploited. It was even featured in the 1990’s film of Leondardo Di’ Caprio. The
movie shed only a glimpse of the nightmare these miners experienced just to obtain
this valuable gemstone. I wonder if women would be proud to wear a diamond ring
on their finger realizing that it would probably come from one of the blood and
sweat of these miners. I know that there are many mines in operation that do
not practice the same, but the thought of being one of the reasons why some
people in Africa died is something I wouldn’t want to become a symbol of our
undying love.
Alternative Options for Diamond Engagement Rings
You may have noticed by now, that I am an advocate of the
green lifestyle, so it wouldn’t be a surprise if I prefer eco-friendly
engagement rings. Sure, these are cheaper in comparison to diamonds, but it
makes me breathe better knowing that our symbol of love does not cause pain to
any living creature.

Wooden Rings
It may not look too elegant but it is a friendly reminder of
your connection to nature. A few crafts men offer these in their shops
including MnM Woodworks. The wood used comes from buried bogs, so you wouldn’t
worry about trees being cut just for you to have these exotic engagement rings.
You could use this as the band for your engagement ring and choose a gemstone
that has been part of your family heirloom for a more meaningful ring on your
finger.

I wonder when I will be “green” bride, but when it happens
then it would definitely be near the beach. I have no dreams of wearing a ring
on my finger right now. I am enjoying my freedom and is very much satisfied
with it.
Better info on your blog than what I have seen so far elsewhere. Thanks for sharing.
